We have old carpet tiles that are being held down by a black carpet glue (that is not working well as the carpet tiles are coming up.) The black mastic is thick, almost like foam. It too has started to come up. (we are in the process of getting the black mastic checked for asbestos and we should have the results by tomorrow) We need to remove the mastic, (as my two year old has started to eat pieces of it) but underneath is asbestos tiles. Assuming the mastic has no asbestos, how do we remover the mastic without disturbing the tile underneath as we cant just scrape it (because it could damage the tile below.) Thanks to anyone with suggestions
Do you know for certain that the tiles are asbestos? You should have sent a sample of the tiles and the mastic holding them down to be tested as well. Not all tiles are asbestos. Even 9x9s were made without the big A.
