Help, is my brick floor ruined?

I had a plumbing leak in my kitchen. The kitchen has a 3/4 paver type brick floor with a polyurethane sealer. We thought the leak was confined to the sink cabinet, but noticed later the brick floor darkening along with the grout in a large oval around the sink. Under the cabinet we could see the concrete backer board, not brick. We think the water made it's way under the cabinet and wicked into the brick. Two weeks later we have seen little if any improvement despite a mason telling us it will dry in time........even though he was surprised it got wet from underneath happened. There was no water on top of the brick. Is he right?
