HELP - laminate on stairs

i installed kronotex laminate floor on stairs 6-9 months ago. They are squeaking very badly. I must have used wrong type of adhesive. I used Liquid nails for "paneling" (the one sold in one gallon bucket).

Now, i plan to redo the stair. I bought wood flooring (plank, parquet) adhesive from ACE hardware. The one you apply with trowel.

Do you think it's okay for laminate floor ?

THanks

HELP - laminate on stairs

Is that particular laminate flooring supposed to be installed with adhesives?

Personally, I ALWAYS recommend against installing laminate flooring on any stairs.

HELP - laminate on stairs

kronotex is clic-2-clic, floating. I thought it's a general rule of thumb to use adhesive when installing "floating" laminate on stairs.

What are other options ? I have laminate flooring everywhere in the house (except for kitchen and bathrooms). It seems odd to put carpet back on stairs. What's your recommendation ?

Thanks

Go with a solid wood tread.

Most Big Home style stores carry pre-made stair treads in Oak or Pine. These can be stained to match the color of whatever your laminate flooring is. You can then apply a proper varnish or poly....

HELP - laminate on stairs

I'm no expert as I have only put laminated on stairs once. It was several years ago, it was a floating system but I can't remember the type of flooring. A certian adhesive was recommended which I used. Are you also using the proper stair nose for the laminate? Are you sure it is the laminate squeeking and not the construction of the stairs?

If you are determined to install it on the stairs, you can contact them directly to find what they recommend on their product for an adhesive. (I didn't see anythign mentioned on their website)

HELP - laminate on stairs

I personally would not put real wood on the stairs unless you put real wood everywhere else.
It's just not a good look for the stairs to make your lam look more plastic like.

I have done tons of glue down with liquid nails. No squeaks.

Did these squeaks exist before?
I agree it may also possible be in the stairnose install. possibly rubbing on the riser.
