My husband and I started remodeling our living room, mainly due to the fact that our daughter's cat had urinated all over the living room, and we couldn't take the stench. It is especially bad in a spot along the wall under a window. We pulled up the carpeting and pad; now we are down to the subflooring. We tore off all the drywall and pulled out all the insulation, because urine had started going up the wall, and the wall was bubbling out. The insulation smelled so bad, we could hardly stand it. I have cleaned the spots with vinegar and baking soda, and then bleach water, and nothing works. It still smells(not as bad before), but the puzzling thing is the spots have been exposed over a week now, and they are still not dry. I have fans running day and night, but not much luck with drying out. We were planning on covering the subfloor (made of particle board) with Zinnser, a product to seal up odors and stains, but my husband is afraid to apply it, because the area won't dry. I also want to mention that after we tore the walls down, the 2X4's, some of them, smell like urine. Anyone have any ideas? We are sitting here wondering what to do next.
