Questions regarding heated tile I plan on having in my bathroom after renovating...
Is there any difference in heating system vs. material of tile (porcelain vs ceramic?)
The bathroom is small at 5'x8' in total. Minus the vanity, tub, and shower, I'm only looking at heating about a 3x4ish area. Im having difficulty finding heating systems that small. Without knowing much about them, I'm forced to ask if I need to buy a larger size and 'trim' it down? or do I need to buy something custom made?
I like Warmly Yours heating system. Easy to install. Go to their web site and do a layout of your bath on line. You can draw you bath room. This will show you how to lay it out. There are many other choices out there. Some other sites probably have the same program to lay your bath out. This is just one I use. Please look around.
I use Suntouch from Watts Radiant. You can buy a mat 12" X 10' long I think. You CAN NOT buy a larger mat and trim it - it doesn't work that way. You can not trim the wires in the mats, you can however cut-away some of the mat material if need be.
The above-mentioned 12" X 10" could be used in your space by laying out four feet then turning the mat and returning four feet. Any excess wire could then be positioned to fill any left over space available.
I've used a 'True Comfort' product from Home Depot. Instead of a mat, it comes as heat cable that you lay out depending on your room layout. It comes in various sizes so you can get a kit to fit your room. Several local plumbing and electrical wholesalers in my area sell the same or similar products.
Any of the mats can be tweaked to fit any room layout also.
