Hardwood thicker than railing base - Help needed

We are installing 3/4" hardwood throughout the main floor of our house, but the railing base it will butt up against is 1/2". Should we remove railing and railing base and put a thicker base on it? Or are there other solutions such as transitions / mouldings? We can't (necessarily) reinstall the railing base on top of the hardwood because then you would see the unfinished hardwood end from the stairs.

Any innovative ideas here?

Hardwood thicker than railing base - Help needed

You could do as you stated then trim the exposed end grains with a chair rail or something. Or cap the hardwood with a molding and butt that up to the sole plate.

You can do a couple of things, you can shim a 1/4 inch and be level with the floor and install a small trim to cover the shims. Or you can use a router and camphor or round over the flooring where it butts. Or you can install a small trim against the raw ends of the floor such as a 1/4 inch quarter round.
