Hardwood on stairs?
I am putting in Hardwood flooring in a couple rooms and a hallway, there is a sunken living room in the middle (1 step each side aprox 7' length) which would be best to use? The hardwood I already have or purchase some new treads and riser's .
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Either install new treads and risers or search for a hardwood cap that covers the existing stairs.

The caps cost a little more but less work

IMHO - I suggest that you attempt to get matching treads. The difference in looks, over attaching stair bullnose, I think, is much nicer.

You could go to the contractor or supplier that you are getting the hard wood flooring from. You should be able to get matching stair treads.

If that doesn't work, take a few samples of the wood flooring, go to a flooring supplier and try to order matching treads thru them.

Example: This is a set of stairs we installed along with the flooring. The flooring was a cinnamon cherry stain. The treads are cherry, and awaiting their stain and finish work..along with railings. Hopefully, you can get an idea (from the pic) of the nicer look that a tread has, over hardwood and bullnose:

With the railings installed (tho, dusty from drywall and still unstained and unfinished):

You can use the hardwood if you get the matching nosing. The only deal there is by the time you buy the stair nose it may be just as cost effective to buy full treads of the same wood

Buying treads
We bought Mirage hardwood flooring for our living room and dining room, and would like to put treads of the same on our stairs. But, we're told by our supplier that none of his manufacturers make treads. We our considering buying nosing (from Mirage), and piece the wood together on the steps to make our own treads. Any thoughts?
