hardwood flooring room transition

I recently removed a load bearing wall. However the floor needs to be repaired. Currently the kitchen and joining room have hardwood. There is a beam in the floor where the wall once stood so the hardwood from the 2 rooms butts up to the floor beam (making them all level). The gap in the floor is about 7 1/2 inches wide and about 5 ft long. What can I do to finish the floor??

Easy method
Buy a 5' length of 7-1/2" oak.
Trace the piece onto the flooring.
Cut out the flooring
Install the wide piece of oak.

The harder method is called "toothing in"
You remove flooring pieces and tooth them all back in.
Lots of work. Lots of skill.

thanks for feedback. the problem is the floor beam is level with the hardwood floors in the 2 rooms. whatever I put in there will be raised if it is more than an 1/8 thick. had thought maybe a t-molding but they are not thick enough and I would need to cut the nub on the bottom so it would be flush with the floor and maybe glue or nail - however this would leave a raised area in the floor if I could do it - haven't seen any 7 in t-molding.

Sorry...what's a "floor beam" ????

The beam is the in the photo below between the hardwood floors. It was the beam that the load bearing wall was setting on prior to its removal.

Two things I can't tell from the photo but thanks for reposting.

1.) You referred to the top of a beam. Are you sure thats not a 2x4 plate on top of a beam?
If it is, you can cut out the 2x4 and build it back up to the subfloor and then add the flooring to finish it off.

2.) I can't tell if the boards line up with each other.
If they do you can tooth in
If not then the 7" piece will have to do or some creative inlay.

I also think its a 2x4 plate. It looks as if it is sitting on top of the floorboards. Also looks like a joint in the centre.
