Politics on the Internet are always a recipe for disaster. Tigers was a much better proposal!

I installed standard 2 1/4 clear oak 2 years back and I loved it. Cost $4 a square foot, took damange from my two dogs, my kid, and my wife who drops things all the time like a champ. Also clear tends to look cleaner as dirt and things blend in with the wood.

You also have to consider long term, you need to pick a floor you will like for 20 years.

I did the main floor and the upstairs (total 800 sq ft) in 2 purchases a year apart, of unfinished white oak engineered wood. I used some of the left overs from the first purchase and the fit was perfect. http://www.howellflooring.com/ I paid around $2.50/sq ft, plus shipping, which brought it to about $3.40/sq ft. Easy people to deal with too.
