Default hardwood flooring over sheet vinyl floor

Will be starting a hardwood flooring project in our kitchen/family room soon. Details are the post above this o ne.

The room a 2 layers of sheet vinyl flooring over the subfloor. Can I install the hardwood flooring over the vinyl floor covering, or should I remove 1 or both layers of vinyl flooring? If the opionions are that I can leave the old vinyl flooring intact, does that elliminate the need to lay down 15# felt?

Thanks in advance.

Chris
