hardwood flooring old and new

How do you choose new hardwood flooring to join up to old hardwood flooring?

First off you have to figure out what kind of wood it is. Then the width and thickness. If you are trying to match a prefinished floor you will have to know what sheen it is. Remember most domestic woods will fade where direct sun hits it. The accecption is cherry, it will darken. If you are going to sand and finish the floor after installation the finish will not matter.
