hardwood flooring making popping noises

I had some trouble with my floor. First some engineered hardwood was glued down to concrete. I did not like the floor (the wood was fautley) so I had a real oak hardwood put down over it. In order to lay the real hardwood 3/4 plywood was put dow by nail and the real oak was laid over it - nailed down I think. Now 4 months later I am starting to hear "popping" noises when I step on certain boards. I think I am hearing more and more as time goes on.

What is the problem? How can it be solved?

How thick was the engineered floor? I don't think you have the correct thickness substrate to hold the oak flooring down properly. It could also be that the engineered floor has loosened from the concrete.
How was the ply attached to the engineered floor? How was the oak floor attached and how long were they?
I take it that someone else did the floor.

I'll have to find out how the plywood was attached to the engineered floor. The lengths were varied from 18" to 5 or 6 feet.

Plywood is put down in full sheets as much as possible and with smaller pieces fitted to the walls.

you have a real problem. that old wood floor should have come up. wood flooring glue stays plyable. so as you walk on it it is moving up and down. it lets your plywood move up and down on the nail which starts the nails to come loose.good luck. i would have the guys that installed your second floor come fix it.
