Default hardwood flooring boards

I recently bought a house that has a hardwood floor. the previous owner had taken some of the boards out before I got there to do some subfloor repairs or something. When I went back to put the boards back in there weren't quite enough boards to do the job. So now I need about 8 feet worth of boards. I went to lowes, home depot, and a couple of discount home improvement stores around here and the only way to buy hardwood flooring boards is to get a whole box which is around $60. I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and if you have any suggestions for where to go to buy individual boards.
