Hardwood Floor to stone Transition - how?

I have just layed down the hardwood on the main floor foyer. It's a dark brown stained maple.

The entrance will be a black granite tile 12"x12". The entrance will be about 4' x 6'.

The stone tile will be installed to be level with the existing hardwood flooring.

Two sides of the hardwood will have to butt up to the black granite tile.

What are some of the standard transition methods to do this?

Can I just simply butt up the black granite tile to the marble. I am worried that any expansion/contraction by either will show a gap between them.

I don't want to just grout between them because I'm sure the grout will crack (most likely along hardwood edge).

I have seen a sand entrained caulk that comes in several colours. But will this hold up to floor type traffic?

I've seen the metal transition strips as well. Not too crazy about this idea because the length is long, 6' on one edge and 4' on another.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hardwood Floor to stone Transition - how?

The existing hardwood is standard 3-1/4" tongue and groove style stapled down over the sub-floor (non removable).

Hardwood Floor to stone Transition - how?

What do you have as a subfloor, is there an underlayment over the subfloor. In other words do you have 2 sheets of ply or just one? What are they and how thick? How is it that a hardwood and granite installation will be the same elevation?
