Hardwood floor "stains" after sanding

Hello to all! I'm 23 and just purchased my first house. The house is a 55' cape cod brick wrap. All hardwood floors on the 1st floor. The condition of the floors is fairly poor, and after doing some research and time i sanded them down pretty well. Can anyone tell me how they look so far and if there is something i can fo about these horrid stains. Any advice would be awesome.

The floors as a whole:

The nicest area

And the problem area

Any advice would rock.

my fisrt question is, what type of sanding method did you use?
If you were to use a drum sander, 98% of all stains would be removed.
