Hardwood floor questions

I saw HomeDepot has these beatiful Birch hardwood floor strips for only $2.99 Canadian per sq. ft... I am really tempted... Here goes my whole bunch of questions

- If I feel my basement very dry, don't feel any moisture at all and it had dricore type subflooring... would it be safe to install hardwood

- How many sq. ft I should purchased to cover 800 sq. ft. of area. including one stair (12 steps)

- What is the best techique to install: flow, glue nail? I personally perferred flow... I know I need to install those T thing...

- Should I open up air vent on the floor.... I think so... just to confirm... to let escape of water if it happens to have any...

Hardwood floor questions

To find out if there is any moisture in the floor, Tape a piece of clear plastic to the floor. Tape all the edges so it is air tight and wait a couple of days. If there is moisture in the concrete it will be damp under the plastic.

Hardwood floor questions

This case is settle, my wife doesn't like the color of the hardwood on sale... and there is so many discussions in the web saying solid hardwood is not suitable... these two reasons make me no choice but choosing engineer hardwood only... and has to pass my wife cosmetic check because whatever I think beatiful may be ugly at her mind...
