Hardwood 1/8 lower than tile schluter edging
The hardwood 3/4 inch by 3 1/2 nail down will be installed to meet an angled join between tiled kitchen and wood floor in livibg room. There is a metal schluter edge on the tile. Is there any way I can raise the edge of the hardwood so it meets the tile without a 1/8 inch drop . I thought I may do one of 2 things . Try to find some wood less than 1/8 ich thick and lay it for the first couple inches along side the schluter . Or apply a layer of floor leveler sloped to raise the hardwood up about 1/8 inch . I do not know what kind of floor levveler would bind to the OSB and not crack later .. We do not want to put in a wood transition as this is american cherry and I can only find an unfinished cherry strip . I would have to finish it myself then the finish would weaar off easily ..

You can use roofing felt to bring the floors to level. Start with an 18" peice and then cut 15" then 12" and soforth until you get the desired height. You will have to cut the hardwood at an angle so it will set against the schluter. The schluter is angled back.

I agree with Woodman about using the layers of tarpaper.


so it will set against the schluter.
However, you do not want to butt the hardwood to the "L" shaped Schluter edging. You need to leave a gap for expansion and then caulk it.

So do I use a 1/4 space , 1/8 space ?? caulk with silicone ? won't silicone wear off ?? what other choices ??

As long as you have a gap on the walls oposite the tile you can cut the wood exact to the schluter with no gap. There will be no problems.
