Grouting Tile After Baseboards

Hi,
I put tile in the downstairs of my home. After the tile was installed I then had a contractor install the baseboards. I now have a gaps between the tile and the baseboards, where there is no grout, because the tile contractor did not take any pride in his work.

Home remodeling is not my forte, how do I now fill in the spaces with grout? I have never worked with grouting.

First and sometimes the hardest part--get the same grout.

Mask off the base boards----mix grout to a mustard like consistency----pack the gaps using a margin float or your fingers---

let it set up for 15 minutes---wipe with a grout sponge that is wrung out almost dry-----wait another 15 minutes and wipe again--

that's it----

If you have ever wiped up muddy foot prints,you can do this.

You will do fine--keep the sponge wrung almost dry---lift and roll the sponge as you wipe---much like you would if wiping up spilled jelly on the floor----Good luck and have fun.

You may need to install a shoe molding. It is common practice on tile floors. This will hide about 1/2" and will also eliminate any gaps between the base and the floor.

That shoe molding is a nice finished look. Maybe someday but right now that would require too much labor because all of the baseboards would have to be done. Thanks for the suggestion

I don't understand why you think the carpenter messed up if there's a gap between the tile you installed and the base molding he installed. The tile is not close enough to the wall if it was planned to not also install shoe molding. (which is normal with any hard floor covering).

You could also fill the grout voids with a cake decorator type of bag. Sold at tile supply houses. It would save a lot of mess and allow you to put a little dab of grout just where you need it. Also, how bout posting a few pics so we can see what you're dealing with.
