Grouting over Grout

My friend had a contractor renovate his whole bathroom. After it was done there was about a 2 ft square spot where the grout has sunken in a lot. He doesn't know how it happened or when it happened after it was finished. I know your not suppose to grout over old grout. Is there any way to fix this with out ripping all the grout in the whole bathroom and re-grout the whole thing? The contractor was a complete hack after looking over his work

You can remove the grout from that section only and re-apply new matching grout.

after removing grout and applying the new stuff, what about the bonding of the new/old grout on the edges where its removed and not removed? Too small of a spot to worry about?

Standard tiles are unfinished on the edges and arenít made to be left exposed. One solution thatís easy and attractive is edge tiles. Also called border tiles or bull nose, they are rounded and finished along one edge, so you can install them next to the tiled area and give it a finished look.

Who said anything about that in this thread?

Yes, exactly, don't sweat the small stuff.
