gouge in oak flooring
I love this site already! My son (I love him dearly) put a nice gouge, at least 1/4" deep and 1/2" long in our oak floor. Do they make a product that I can use to fill this in and then cover it over to match the color?

Find a hidden area that you can sand to create a little oak dust and mix it with a little Elmers to make an exact match if you can't find a putty that will match to your liking.

I use a ' shellac stick' "burn in stick'--'lacquer stick'

It's old school but works well---The stick melts when heated with an alcohol lamp or torch--

Surrounding area gets masked off with aluminum foil- shellac melted onto a burn in tool or artists pallet knife---spread carefully into damage---then sanded with very fine sand paper on a wood block.

Add a little new varnish or wax the area and done---

The sticks come in a bunch of colors---Mike---

And if that does not work it's a simple job to just remove that one board and replace it. The hard part is matching the old finish.
May not be a DIY job.
