It depends. How high of a glaze content is on the prior tile? You will have to scuff the surface And then set with a two part thinset like Kerabond and Keralastic by Mepei.

The tile is in the bathroom and shower. 2" square slip resistant.

Alway better to remove the old tile.
Just going over it will through off the baseboards, where it meet the other floors, the toilet flange, door casings.

The shower is quite large and all tile. Do you think it would be OK to lay the new tile over the old?

How would you lay tile over tile in a shower and have the drain come out right?

Use longer screws for the drain strainer

that would work for the drain but it may not work for the shower controls.

He's axing about setting new tiles over old tiles on the floor (concrete) not walls.

Get Extend-O-Drain for the shower drain strainer.

Tile over tile can work well as long as everything is in good condition and properly prepared. It's a good idea to scarify or use a special primer on the old tiles. Here's one I've used.
