I am planning on framing a floor my garage and have a few questions.
the garage is 22x11 and attached to my house. I am removing the wall between the house and garage and converting the garage into another room. I want to have a smooth transition from the house floor into the garage.
The garage floor is on a pitched slab. in the rear of the garage the slab is about 5 inches below the interior house floor and on the front of the garage I have about 8 inches.
My thought is to run a level ledger from the back to the front and one in the center of garage from back to front and use 2x4 going left to right and just shim under the 2x4's as the floor pitxhes. On top of the 2x4's I plan on using 3/4 inch tongue and grove ply wood as my sub floor. The garage is going to be one large area but kind of two rooms. In the one section I plan on doing carpet and the other section I was thinking on using 1x8 pieces of pine to make a look alike plank floor.
1. Are the 2x4's ok to use since I plan on shimming
2. How long of a span can I do using that method? Can I do a five foot piece running from ledger to a center ledger?
3. Do in need the sub floor if I am using 1x8 pine planks or can I nail them directly to the 2x4's
4. Any other cheap ideas on what else to use instead of the pine planks?
Thanks!!!
