forgot a tile-baseboard question....

what is the best height to set baseboard off the finished tiles? somebody told me 3/8 or 1/2 inch, and then put shoe mold down. but if there is that much gap, how the heck am i gonna nail the shoe to the baseboard? its the avg height baseboard (3.5" ?) with the small ogee at the top. thanks

Never heard of such a thing, I just set the base on the tiles and nail it to the studs.
There is a gap between the tiles and the bottom plate, right?

yes small gap between tile and drywall. then you just set the shoe on the tile as well and nail to face of base?

Yes---base on tile or a touch above it---nailed to studs--then shoe nailed to the face of the base.

Shoe is flexible enough to press it gown to match the contour of the floor.
