Floors Hump and Dip Badly
I'm looking for some advice on what might be causing my floors to dip and hump. I live in a townhome and the edges of the first floor at the perimeter walls are 1-1.5 inches higher than the rest of the floor. We have had to shim any furniture that sits against these outside walls. There is also a VERY noticable hump in the floor about half way between the front and back of the house. Our basement ceiling is finished so it is not possible to take a look at the joists to see what they're doing without ripping the ceiling out. The house was built in 1976. It has me very concerned and it feels like they've gotten worse in the past few months. Can anyone offer a suggestion? Thank you!

No way to just guess over the internet, it could be dozens of differant things.
One of the few time I'd suggest calling in a struturial engineer.

Is it carpet? Did you lose a hamster?

Joking aside, assuming its hardwood. Maybe pull a piece of the basement ceiling down to see if it was installed over chipboard or some other unsuitable subfloor.

We're it me, I'd decide to live with it for a while as the solution is likely neither pretty, quick, or easy. You will need to fix or disclose if/when you go to sell it.
