Flooring problems

Hello, I had a contractor add an addition to my house, he put down a 3/4 osb floor over the rafters, now he wants to put down the carpet, I have been told by friends, that he needs to put a floor over that with a moisture barrier. Is this true? Any help would really be appreciated. Thank you

There is no reason to apply anything on the OSB to install carpeting. If your house has a crawl space any moisture barrier should be install on it's floor per local standards. Otherwise if you have a basement, nothing is required or recommended.

Are your friends contractors?

Unfortunately friends, while the intention is good, offer advice based on different circumstances.

If you were doing anything other than carpet I would say maybe they are right depending on the conditions.

If your contractor has done everything else right , I would defer to his advice rather than your buddy the accountant
