Flooring Air Nailer With Mallet

Why do certain hardwood flooring nailers require the use of a mallet to pound the back of the nailgun? Why can't they just have a trigger?

The pressure from the mallet assures the joints are tight before driving the nail.

It gives the wood plank that final 'umph' to push it in tight.

Trust me, they wouldn't have been doing it that way for almost 100 years if it wasn't necessary (the original ones were totally mechanical)
