Would like to put laminate flooring in kitchen and adjoining dining room. Our dinette set has chairs with rollers on them. Will they cause a lot of wear on the laminate? Should I consider another flooring option? I like the laminate look, but have to consider the cost and wearlife of the flooring. What brands to you recommend with consideration of ease of installation? It will be going over plywood (particle board) in kitchen and existing tile in dining area. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unless you want more ceramic tile, then laminate should wear better than darn near anything.
Moisture is your only real concern.

Quickstep has won awards for their tounge and groove design, but alot of other laminates can be relatively easy as well.

All manufacturers have a good, better, and best within their lines, so pick the best you can afford, and that should perform as well as you can ask it to.

Hope ya do not mind if I hijack the thread, but We have a kitchen/dinette area that has vinyl flooring that is going to have to be replaced someday. It has scars and paint stains, dings and in little places it is starting to come up.

I have NO clue what to use it its place.

I love the look of tile but am very concerned about kids dropping heavy glassware, jars of pickles, tonka trucks, or any number of other things on it. Obviously Vinyl is nearly impervious to most of those.

I like the look of wood, but too much water, too many spills, and some of the dame dropping issues go with that.

Vinyl has the ruggedness, but looks like garbage in comparison.

This is on a concrete slab foundation.

I do not suppose anyone makes Titanium ceramic tile :p

I would definatlely consider the "best" line of whatever brand you get. Considering the chair rollers. Also, you want to make absolutely sure the floor is flat within tolerance. Excessive out-of-level can cause the laminate to seperate at the joints, which you don't want the chairs rolling over.

EDIT: Let me add that I think it's important to keap in mind that the floorcovering you use will be the focal point of your room. Not the bottoms of the chairs. Were it me, I would find out exactly what look I wanted to achieve and if the roolers needed to be replaced with feet, they would.
