Floor Refinisheres Finished...and Now About the Dust...

The floor refinishers are just about finished staining my hardwood floors. And I've got dust everywhere. Is there some easy. quick, cheap way to get rid of it?
Someone suggested a tac cloth, but I'm told it is sticky, and I don't know if it will leave residue behind...say, on my painted walls.

Any suggestions?

Since this is my first experience with a hardwood floor, is it a good idea to put down something before I use an area rug? Does it matter? Will it interact negatively with the new floor?

Thanks
