Floor Prep for Tile Floor

We are getting tile floors installed next week. We decided to save the money and remove the old tile on our own, the question is, how smooth does the floor need to be for the new install? We spent all weekend scraping morter out. Does the floor need to be perfectly smooth with every remnant of morter removed, or is there a little give in how much can be left? We do not have any raised edges left, just some morter remaining, but when we take up that morter, we are taking up the cement slab underneath. Thanks for any advice!

In my opinion it does not need to be removed completely but does need to be ground or scraped flat so there is no chance of it causing a tile to wobble. It also will give you a flatter looking floor.

any high or low will affect the new tile badley.
It really would be wise to remove as much as possible. Even if it means leveling afterwords.
plus you will need an anti fracture membrane before the tile goes down.
