floor over 24" o.c. truss joists

Hi guys, I hope somebody hear could help me with this. I've got a 40by 40 garage with the trusses made to have a 40by 12' room upstairs. I'm about to build my stairs, but I need to know how thick my floor has to be first. The trusses are 24" on center, bare joists right now. would one layer of threequarter ply be enough? 3/4 tongue and groove. Glued and screwed

So they are basically 2 X 8's....pretty bouncy over 12'...when you say room, do you mean storage?

Post some pictures---Your description does not sound right for a floor system ---What is the unsupported length of the joists---size of joists --???

Hi Joe,

You'll have to contact the truss manufacturer for the info you need. We generally work with standard floor joists not what you've got there. So these trusses span almost 40 ft.? There are no supporting beams of walls under there? I can barely see some number, but it all depends how the space will be used.

Someone here might be able to research for you, but I suggest talking to the people that built the system.

The unsupported span in the center and the additional load on the truss are the concerns here. Just looking at it, at best it is storage for light, low density items: Christmas decorations, lawn furniture....etc. But do what JazMan said and contact the mfg. for load specs. Not sure I would trust it for any real weight.
