Floor adhesive for Travertine tile
I have an asphalt/asbestos tile floor from the 60's in very good condition. I once tried to remove some in a bathroom and swore never to try that again. ( I know about the hazard and laws regarding asbestos removal and disposal). Anyway, can I bond Travertine stone tiles to the asphalt with a floor adhesive? It seems it should adhere better than mortar.

Thanks, dave

No! :)

OK, so you say it's asphalt tile, so this is on a slab. So remove the tiles using an ice chopper or spud, then scrape (razor scrapper), as much of the black adhesive (cut-back) as possible 'till you see concrete, then buy a bag of white modified thin set mortar that says it's compatible with cut-back.
