I have a 160 year old brick house. I believe that he subfloor is 1" thick and the finished floor is 3/4" oak. The floor is past its prime but is smooth. My wife wants brazilian cherry.
1) Can I lay the new floor over the existing oak?
2) Which is the better way to go, float glue, float snap, or nail it down?
3) Why do they offer so many thickness's? How thin can I go?
The only experience that I have with flooring is when a buddy and I took up the upstairs floor to do some structual stuff about 10 years ago. Afterward we leveled and nailed the oak back down. Came out nice.
