Floating Hardwood Floors

I just found out that it is possible to "float" solid hardwood flooring....is that true?

It's done, but it's not an accepted method. Huge chance of failure.

So is it because when the tongue and groove is glued, the glue will fail at one time or another? It must also be, because of the huge possibilty that the wood will warp too?? This girl I work with suggests this to customers, (yes, at HD) She tells me it's done a lot. I am very concerned about this method, I know I have a lot more to learn about wood flooring installations, but, MAN! she is such a "know it all", it's irritating! I just didn't think it was a good idea, I HAVE heard some engineered can be floated, but not solid.

Solid wood needs to be nailed--it expands and contracts to much throughout the year to stay glued together successfully.

How in the **** would a person hope to glue that any way? 12 foot long bar clamps?

You you should get a bundle or two of flooring and a jug of glue and have her put on a demonstration for the customers.

The fun will start with the first warped board.
