Floating bamboo floor installation - subfloor preparation

Our great room was previously part carpet, part lino. After tearing up the carpet, we found there was 3/8"; particle board under the lino to make the two types of flooring even. is it possible to just add 3/8"; plywood to the area where the carpet had been and then install a floating bamboo floor over the whole area? My concern is that there will be ~1/16"; (the thickness of the vinyl) difference between the two areas, and I am concerned you will be able to feel the transition when the new flooring is installed. Is there a better way to level out the two areas?
Any tips are appreciated!

You can use 15# felt paper and layer it up to the vinyl. Start at about 30 inches and cut them shorter by 6 or 8 inches each layer until you reach the right hight. Don't forget to layer it back on the sides to.

That was something I was considering - I guess just staple it down under the cork underlayment I got for the floating floor? I'm having trouble visualizing what you mean by layering out the sides - would I lay it out under the whole area affected or just "feather" it out from the transition?

To layer the sides you do the same thing as you did from lino out. If the door is 4' wide start with a peice 6' wide and the next peice will be 6" shorter on both sides and then the next peice is 6" shorter than that and so on.
