Flagstone Patio

I want to cover an outside area with flgstone to make a barbeque/patio area. Part of this area is currently concrete slab and part is gravel. How can I acomplish this transition?

.........and you don't want to add any more concrete I'll bet! Huh?:)

If all you want to do is transition from concrete to flag stone, I would dig out all the gravel, remove some dirt, put the gravel back and compact it like you would normally do for a flagstone installation. Compact it until your elevation+brick height= concrete level and you should be good to go.

Sounds to me that he wants to place stone over the slab and the area where the gravel is, in that case, a concrete base is needed, unless you want all these stones moving around.:)
