Fix slippery finish on laminate

We have a laminate floor in a rental and some cleaning crew cleaned it with something (we don't know) that changed the quality of the finish. If you walk on it with socks it is extremely slippery. If you walk with sneakers or bare feet it tends to be a bit sticky/squeaky.

We tried to clean with a light vinegar solution to see if we could remove the residue of the previous cleaner that appears to cause the problem. That may have helped a little bit but not substantially.

We're looking for additional suggestions. Perhaps a stronger vinegar solution, more cleaning time, or some entirely different cleaner or method. Just using a typical, commercial laminate cleaner doesn't improve this problem.

Something they used had some silicones or waxes in it.

Murphy's oil seems to work pretty well here.

Cheap laminate is flat and smooth, it is what it is.

This floor wasn't like this before. At some point recently it changed after someone applied some cleaner. We don't know exactly what happened but it did change.

Won't the cleaning company tell you what was used? That sure would be a good starting place to track down what happened and how to proceed.

This happened a few months ago and we don't know the exact time period. There have been different cleaning people used. I don't know them directly. We know a recent one was using Bona wood floor cleaner however we don't know if that is the culprit for the problem or if it was something else. We did inquire with the manager and this was as much as we could find out accurately. If someone knows that Bona can lead to the problem we described initially, then that could be a starting point otherwise we need a more generic solution.

Re: Fix slippery finish on laminate

Laminate floors don't require a whole lot to get clean. Probably some spic & span and maybe they finished it off with mop & glo.
