First tile job, what's the best place to start?

I'm going to tile my laundry room tonight, and it's the first time I've ever laid tile. It's only 66 square feet. I've laid the chalk lines down the center (red lines in my drawing) and checked for square and done a rough lay of the tile. Where should I start? My plan was to start in the 1st quadrant and move in a clockwise position. What's the best way to move through the room and make sure everything stays square and even without trapping myself.

Thanks!

DW,
Everything looks good. I would do like you are planning except leave the door quadrant for last so you can have a little more room to work. Take the door off to make it easier.

Obviously you're installing ceramic tiles which you confirmed by worrying about being trapped. However, the way you marked the lines is not the way I'd do it. That is OK for vinyl, but not ceramic or stone tiles.

You should be starting off of the short wall on the right, opposite the door. The short north-south line should be about 2 tiles, (assuming the tiles are 12-14" or so), away from that way+-. The long line can be adjusted for best layout. You install the tiles going wall to wall, not in quadrants.

You didn't include measurements of the room nor tiles, so that's about as much as I can offer.

I would also figure out, on paper, where every single tile is going to land relative to the walls and door openings. You don't want to put down a tile that is 1" x 1".
Don't forget to allow for the grout thickness, and use spacers.

Spacers..........? Spacers are for rookies! OH.....I forgot. OK then.

DW, I'm sure you're well into the project by now. How is it going?

Thanks for the replies guys. I am well into it. Working in quad 1 and down and then towards the door. So far about 25% of the way through and no major incidents. I'm waiting for neighbors to call the cops about the tile saw ;)

Well, OK. Go to quad #2, then do # 3 & 4 at the same time.

Most cities have noise ordinances which takes effect at 9 pm. OH - OH.

DW,
Looks like everything turned out nice. I like all the storage. Tile looks nice and neat.
