Fireplace trim options - hardwood floor

I am going to install my first hardwood floor in a small room. From what I have read, it seems like a have three options for the trim around my granite fireplace slab:

1. Cutting slab and lay floor underneath (don't want to attempt cutting granite)

2. Picture frame

3. Using threshold/endcap trim

I have seen pictures for #1 and #2. I'm not sure if I want to attempt cutting grooves with a router for the picture frame technique. Does anyone have any pictures of #3, it seems the easiest of three possibilities...does it look cheap? The picture framing looks awesome, just not sure about trying it. Thanks from a newbie.

go for picture frame with the corners joined in a 45 deg. angle...what type of wood are you installing? what method?

Bruce oak 2.25 Picture frame method looks awesome...I'll have to practice using the spline.
