Question

Filling the gap on the tile floor where wall was (foto)

Hi,

I removed wall between kitchen and living room. Now gap on the floor needs to be filled (see photo) somehow so border from hardwood to tile (from living room to kitchen) will be seamless (will look nice and consistent). I don't plan to replace tile on the kitchen this time and it's very unlikely that I will be able to find same tile (original is about 20 years old). So the question is how to fill this gap, what are my options?

If it is possible to take the tile on the left and right of what was the wall that was taken down, you could remove those pieces of tile on both sides all the way to the adjoining walls on each side of the gap, then get a transition strip to fill the gap. You would need a 4 1/2 or 5 inch wide strip.

Check your local flooring outlets for one that size, or if you are handy enough get some 1x6 and rip it to size to fit and bevel it with an electric wood planer. Get oak or poplar wood 1x6 instead of the cheap ass pine, bring a piece of the tile in the store with you to try and get a stain that will closely match it.

Tile was removed, gap filled with matching pieces of parquet and all floors sanded and lacquered...
