Question

Filler between floor joists in old home

Hello:
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a situation. I am remodeling an old home buit in 1910. It has hardwood flooring and I want to put radiant heat under alll the floors. Upon lifting the hardwood flooring I found some kind of filler between the sleeper joists. It appears to be some kind of concrete or slag. Anyone else ever find this and if so what the heck is it?
Thank
