Expansion Joints
Hello :

I need some info on expansion joints in laminate flooring. I'm installating it in a basement over a concrete subfloor. The room is about 34 feet wide. The manufacturer states that I need an expansion joint if the run will be over 30'. For aestetic reasons, I'd like to avoid this. I'd prefer a continuous run without a break. I have carpeting in the room right now. I ripped up some of the carpeting and the 3/4" think baseboards are 7/16" above the flloor. I'm thinking of running the floor right under the baseboard - leaving 1/2" for expansion. Think this would allow for enough expansion to avoid the need for an expansion joint?

what is the exact product you are using.

even with the 1/2 expansion, you will need to add a break if the room is over 30 feet. If that is indeed what the manufacturer states.

I know of some companies who have allowed Basketball courts to be done without a break.
no problems.
but that is with higher end lam. 03-06-2006 06:10 PM
