I want to install some 2 1/4'' prefinished engineered(3/8'') flooring over my solid oak strip flooring. The original oak is has no subfloor under it. It is nailed to the joist which are 16'' o.c.
Do I glue it down or rent a stapler to install it.
I can see some issue by doing that. If I was you I would be contacting the manufacturer of the new flooring. No matter what we say when it comes to warrenty they have the last say.
I never would glue it down. I've seen to may fail.
Is there a vaper barrier under the floor on the ground?
Why not just refinish what you have and add insulation under it?
I just finished reading the NWFA guidines. It's a wonder woodfloors were ever installed.
I am going to install some A/C plywood over the oak flooring and staple the engineered over that .
I would refinish ,but it is a 100 year old floor that has many bad spots
thanks for your reply
