ends of porch boards rotted


my 2nd floor back porch is t &g boards painted . in the process of preping to paint, found the edges of the boards some are rotten, they stick out under the railing and rest on top of a small roof(garage is under porch). their( was) is aluminum on the edge but its old and crumbling was tared at on time. can i cut the edges and just repalce the outer part?

Yes---maybe. It will depend on where the joists are---you need to keep the original deck boards supported and also have a place to attach the new wood.
