dura ceramic over vinyl

I am thinking about installing a dura ceramic tile floor. The installing company came and measured this afternoon, and said rather than pulling the vinyl out, they would use the leveler material and install over the vinyl.
Question is, does that work? Do they still have to use the underlayement, after they fill in the vinyl(looks like 12 inch tiles) fake but sunken grout lines.

I am thinking that I may tackle this job myself. I have put in several regular tile floors, and this actually looks easier. Am I a fool for thinking that? Any other info you can give me will be appreciated.

Did you take the time to look over the reviews on this product?

I had some left over flooring like this so I stuck it in a kitchen area in a rental I own to see how it worked out and it's been there for about 3 years and still looks like new.

Simple enough to install a cave man could do it.
