Question

Drywall mud cleanup prior to tile and carpet?

Hi folks,

We just finished up with drywall and there is quite a mess of mud on the concrete floor. I'm wondering how well it should be cleaned prior to tile and carpet installation? Should we scraping everything up with a puddy knife?

Thanks

Yes scrape it off with putty knife then scrub with a water and stiff brush. Carpet doesnt need to be super clean but for tile it needs to be all gone.

Depends, do you want your tile popping off unexpectedly. do you want your carpeting to wear holes from the underside, Go ahead and leave the mess .

Yes sarcasm intended.

Drywall mud would not hurt the carpet. But when it crumbles from foot traffic, it could come through from underneath as a dust. And you might feel it when you walk on the carpet.

Scrape an shop vac all you can.
As soon as you wet it down you'll have a muddy mess to deal with.

Thanks guys. Just got done with a long scrape and shop vac session mixed in with some outlet/switch installations. It looks pretty decent.
