Dricore and Engineered Hardwood

I've got Dricore down in my basement and am ready to start my flooring. I will be stapling engineered hardwood that is 13/32" thick. Dricore installation instructions say to use a 1/4" plywood underlayment for engineered hardwood. I've been in touch with Dricore, and they say they recommend the plywood for "a more stable, solid installation."

How necessary is the plywood, and would there really be anything wrong with stapling the engineered hardwood directly to the Dricore (so long as I don't pierce the plastic)?
