Dogs on a hardwood floor

I'm planning to go with hardwood floors in the new place (actual planks from the lumber mill).

My wife's dog (ok, he's my dog too) is inside 50% of the time, and he's rambunctious but not destructive. 60 lbs.

The problem as I see it is his nails as he trots or sprints across the floor.

Suggestions?
Should I just go with hickory flooring and refinish every few years?

Thanks,
Garrett

Dogs on a hardwood floor

they will be fine. We have 4 old english sheepdogs. solid 3/4" red oak floors put in 2 1/2 yrs ago still look NEW

This spring I might scuff and give another coat of Poly before we go away camping, but doesnt really need it at this point.

I used 4 coats of OIL-Based Varathene Poly-urethene.
