dogs and flooring

What is the best material to use when you have dogs? Tile or wood? Or something else. We are redoing a large (22x24) living room where we spend most of the time. It would butt up to dark parkay flooring

Tile is the best in this case.

There is another thread running on just this topic in the flooring section. You might scan it for options. Strand bamboo and paying close attention to the quality of the actual finish on the material came up. I think you should be able to click on this link to get there.

hardwood for dogs

This topic comes up often so in case we all missed something, you might use the search engine to explore other similar threads.

From experience the best material for dogs is either tile or laminate if you want the wood look. Laminate is extremely durable.

Laminate is not durable and would be a horrible choice. I would never use laminate on a project for anything! It is cheap but it looks it and the inexpensive stuff does not last.

Most of it, especially what box stores sell, is a sandwich of protective film over a thin layer of patterned material (the combination of these two layers is often not even as thick or protective as two to three coats of poly would be) sealed to a cheap substrate like particle board. if the dogs scratch it up, there is no way to refinish it or to remove deep scratches. It is gone.

Perhaps you meant quality engineered flooring? Maybe but same issues as hardwood or bamboo.

Glad someone shot down that laminate idea. God I hate that stuff.

Concrete is pretty durable, but you would have to seal it with something.

Terrazzo looks nice.

How about tile?
