Do I need a vapor barrier?
Hello, Great forum. Been reading a lot of posts but can not locate an answer.
I am installing a laminate flooring w/o attached pad. Currently I intend to install it with 6mm cork in 2x3 foot sheets. The floor is over a crawlspace with a vapor barrier on the ground and unfaced insulation between the joists, 3/4" tongue and groove, 3/4 press/particle board. Can I put the cork down without a vapor barrier? Would taping the seams in the particle board with a Tyvek tape do work as a vapor barrier? Or should I put something like quietwalk (barrier/felt) on top of the cork? Can cork rot/grow mildew? I've asked locally and have heard need it/don't need it. Crawl space is well ventilated. Looking for quiet, and to not do the job again in the future. Thank you for your time. Last edited by bavgumbo; 10-15-2008 at 09:33 PM. Reason: forgot to ask ? |
