directions of hardwood floor and joint

General speaking, hardwood floor should be installed perpendicular to joints. however i have dinning+living room (300 sqft) is 12'X24' with two bay window (two directions) that makes joints have two directions too.
I want to install hardwood floor parallel to joints at 75% area. The subfloor is 5/8" OSB, it looks strong. I will cover 7/16" OSB over the subfloor to make it stronger. I don't it is ok or not.

It's OK to run the planks with the joists if you install a sheet of underlayment. But I doubt 7/16 OSB is an underlayment, it's sheathing. I would install 1/2" plywood instead and don't buy the cheap CDX stuff. That's sheathing too. Get B/C ply.

the hardfloors are quite common: red oak 3/4" thick and 3.25 wide, canadian made (goodfellow), prefinished hardwood floor with tongue and groove. I already installed in family room. I want to install parallel with joints in living and dinning room, that looks good I think.
But it is not strong as perpendicular to the joints. That is why I want to add OSB (or T&G, or plywood to make subfloor strong enough)
thank you and jazman to answer my question
